Why I Love Music

Submitted by JoDee
I stapled a very large piece of bulletin board and added a border. I made a large heart out of white poster board and wrote "Why I Love Music...". I had my students in grades 2-6 write on small cut out hearts in shades of pink, lavender, and red, a statement on why they love music. I made the hearts out of what ever I had around like construction paper, colored paper, and recycled file folders. We brain stormed together and wrote our responses on the board.

I gave the students scrap paper to make a sloppy copy of what they wanted to write. They had to peer edit them and show them to me to edit all spelling and grammar. My principal is very firm about not displaying students writing with spelling errors. Anyway, it made an impressive display that was fun and easy. I had the students glue their heart on the bulletin board where ever they wanted. This also was a very subtle Music Advocacy Bulletin Board. I constantly saw parents, teachers, and students stopping to read and notice 200 plus hearts stating why music is important in the lives of children.
