Who Said That?

Submitted by Amy

I did a new bulletin board in my jr. high choir room this year. In large letters at the top it says, "Who said that?" I used a fun font I found on my printer CD and alternated each letter with my school colors: red and gold. In different squares are musical quotes from composers, opera singers, pop singers, actors, jazz musicians, etc. Some are profound and some are funny.
My students really enjoyed reading them. Examples:

I write music with an exclamation point! --Richard Wagner
If it hadn't been for Elvis, non of us would have made it. --Buddy Holly
Music was my refuge. I could crawl into the space between the notes and curl
my back to loneliness. --Maya Angelou
You may be disappointed if you fail, but you are doomed if you don't
try. --Beverly Sills
All the good music has already been written by people with wigs and
stuff. --Frank Zappa
If music be the food of love, play on! --William Shakespeare
Without music, life is a journey through a desert. --Pat Couroy
The trouble with real life is there is no danger music. --Jim Carrey
Most of us go to our grave with our music still inside of us. --unknown
If you can walk you can run. If you can talk you can sing. --Zimbabwe
proverb

I placed the quotes in front of musical fabric. You could also specialize
the quotes for just band, orchestra, piano, singing, etc.
