Paper People Scales

(submitted by Rosie)

I invented this project to help teach scale notes but it could also work on a bulletin board. I have called it Paper People and it is the old fashioned paper dolls with a musical twist. Each student can make one for the level of scale they are studying. The idea is to make a chain of paper people by folding a rectangle of paper concertina style to make eight divisions. The outline of a person (but it could be an alien) is the drawn onto the front making sure that a hand and foot are touching the edge that folds onto the next side.

The outline is then cut out and the desired scale notes are made one to a person/alien. The students can then have fun drawing silly faces on the
'scale family'. They can make them different characters, or different nationalities or different species of alien. They can then attach them to a bulletin board for display.

This idea is at my site: http://www.fortuencity.co.uk/business/helphelp/707/preliminary.htm/ and is probably for the younger set. My 10 year old who is doing 4th grade theory had a lot of fun with it even with the Db major and Bb minor scales!
