Musical Royalty

This bulletin board can be as simple or as fancy as you would like. It features several famous performers that have earned the title of "King" or "Queen" or some other title of royalty. I use Print Shop to print out colorful crowns in a varity of styles. You could draw your own or have your students create their own with foil, glitter, construction paper, etc... On the crown write the performer and their title. To make this an interactive bulletin board put the title on the crown and on the other side of the board (in a mixed up order) put the name of the performer on a piece of black construction paper shaped like a head. Each class could then decide how to "finish" the bulletin board. I used the following Musical Royalty examples.

Mambo King-Tito Puente King of Mountain Music-Roy Acuff

King of Ragtime - Scott Joplin King of the Road - Roger Miller

King of Swing - Benny Goodman Queen of the Blues - Dinah Washington

Queen of Rock - Janis Joplin Lady - Billie Holiday Lady Soul - Aretha Franklin

Variations: Some neat variations can happen with backgrounds. Try some velvety or satin material for a background and fake fur to border it. Use aluminum foil for a shiny background. 3-D effects could come from adding a chunky border like the fake fir or maybe add fake jewels, glitter, etc... to a plain border for more glitz.
