Music Stew

(submitted by Cindy)

I like to use an old red and white checked table cloth as the backdrop for Music Stew. I cut out and laminated a large soup kettle and have the ingredients around the table. A "salt" shaker has f for forte, a "pepper" shaker has p for piano. A container of milk (melody), box of spices (style), container of eggs (rhythm), stick of butter (form), round container of flour (harmony) all have musical elements written on them. A recipe follows for music stew is printed on a large recipe card. Take 3 rhythms, beat well, add a cup of melody. Stir well, mix in 3 tablespoons of form, 1/2 cup of harmony and a dash of style. Season well with dynamics (f and p) best served hot. This dish serves everyone! This can be done at any time of year or when you are focusing on the musical elements. You can cut the ingredients out of paper and laminate or use real containers for a 3-D effect. Just replace the labels with your choice of elements.
