March Into Music! Name this Tune!
(submitted by Kristin)

I am given the month of March to cover a bulletin board at my
afternoon school since March is MIOSM. So...This year I made a staff with black electrical tape on a bright blue
background. I edged it in orange and bright flowers in hopes of Spring. The notes are flowers, stems are stems. I cut out the
middle of the flowers for half and whole and use leaves for flags on the eighth notes.

At the top it says, "March Into Music!"
At the bottom it says, "Name this tune!"

On the staff, I have 1 measure of 4/4 time and each day, I change the tune. The students then try to figure out what the tune is. No prize or anything, they just love trying to be one of the ones who knows the answer. They whisper it to me and then keep it a secret until the end of their class. This has been so fun! Even our teachers and staff and janitor have gotten into it! You should see them standing there and humming and trying to figure it out. I take each class by the board at the end of their class and we find DO and sing it on syllables until they are all pretty confident they know what it is. Then they have to promise not the tell the other class!

It has given me an opportunity to unite the whole school with something very simple. One person said, "I don't get it! How are you supposed to know what they sounds like!" Well...howdee! I got to tell them how to do it! Then, they didn't think it was all that hard...kind of like a ladder just moving up and down!
