Valentine's Day Melodic Direction

I chose colored card and copied a stave onto it. I then laminated enough for a class set. I then bought some Love Hearts Candy and gave each child 6. We had two wonderful lessons on pitch notation and the formation of melodies. We learned about steps and skips, getting higher, going lower, repeated notes and we even did some melodic dictation at the end of the unit! I then glued my examples to the staves and displayed them on two boring doors! Every child looks at this display remembering the concepts we learnt.  -Lesley Anne Hill
