12 Days of Music Class

I used the "12 Days of Christmas" as inspiration for my bulletin board. I titled it, "The 12 Days of Music Class". Kindergarten classes helped make the "tree" by rolling up green paper, making three cuts down one end about half way on each roll and pulling it out to "grow" the tree branch. We then sang, "O Tannenbaum" with our branches. Then I stapled the "branches" vertically on the board to make the evergreen, or Christmas tree. I added the words, "On the first day of music class my teacher gave to me...". then I listed 12 different music symbols to hang on the tree. "A ti ti on the top of the tree" and hung the 2 eighth notes on the top. I continued listing 11 more things written down the side of the tree and hanging them as garland on the tree. It turned out as a beautiful musical tree. Of course I continued the lesson by teaching 5th graders the "real" 12 days of Christmas song and we listened to several versions including the hottest a cappella group, Straight, No Chaser, with their crazy silly version of the song. They LOVED IT.
