Jump Into Music
(submitted by Kate)

This is a bulletin board that I used at the start of the school year, but it could be used in January to commemorate the new year as well. I covered the board in green and used a music-related border, and drew a frog outline on green tagboard to staple to the board. The eyes of the frog are old CDs (you could use those AOL ones everybody continually gets in the mail, or CDs you try to burn on your computer that get messed up somehow). The tongue is made out of red ribbon (the kind with slim wires built into the sides). Simple board that gets lots of looks and compliments from kids and staff alike!

I'm Awfully POND of You!

I love bulletin boards that brag on my students.  This idea uses the frog theme.  Basically you create a pond scene by cutting a large "pond" of blue paper and adding slightly imperfect circles of green.  On these circles write the names of the students that you are highlighting.  You may want to add a reason why they are on the board like "choir member", "100% of Theory Test", "Band President" or whatever.   Add a few scraps of green around the pond, maybe a few cattails (easy to make-brown rectangles) for artist effects.  Purchase some preprinted frog notepads or print some from your favorite desktop publishing program to add around the board.  Add the caption "I'm Awfully POND of You".   Click picture for close-up.

    Variations:
  • Change "I'm Awfully POND of You" to "Mrs. King is Awfully Pond of You"
  • Use a digital camera and a photo editing program to create a green face for your frog from a picture of yourself.  For even bigger laughs use a photo of your principal!

Watch Those Frogs in Your Throat

This bulletin board will keep your singers from croaking.  *smile*  Print several tips for keeping your voice healthy (feel free to use the ones I've posted) on full sheets of paper.  Above wide, short green rectangles (we want them to look like the side view of a lily pad) post the reminders.  Add frogs all over the board.  I would suggest printing some from your favorite desktop publishing software (you can even use the clip art in Microsoft Word) or  purchase some preprinted and precut frog paper from the teacher store.  Add the caption "Watch Those Frogs in Your Throat...Take Care of Your Voice".   Click picture for close-up.

If You're HOPPY and You Know It

Create a large staff in the middle of your bulletin board.  I usually draw this one with a large black marker, but you could also use masking tape or black electrical tape if you wanted.  Print out several frogs of appropriate size (or buy the preprinted ones at the teacher store) and place them on the staff in the appropriate positions to represent the melody of "If You're Happy and You Know It".  Add the caption "If You're HOPPY and You Know It".     Click picture for close-up.

NOTE:  Yeah, yeah... I know that the melody isn't correctly "notated" above.  I intentionally arranged them this way so that you could get a better idea of what the complete board would look like when posted.

Hop To It

It's cute.  It's simple.  It goes with the frog theme.  You may want to use "Hip Hop To It" instead of "Hop To It".   Click picture for close-up.

TOADally Awesome Instruments

Create large lily pads by cutting slightly imperfect green circles and place them on a blue background.  Label each of the lily pads one of the instrument families and place pictures of instruments that belong in that family on the lily pad.  You could just post one instrument and rotate new ones in each week.  Add a few frogs here and there and the caption "TOADally Awesome Instruments".  Click picture for close-up.

There are an infinite number of ways to take this theme.  Instead of instruments, you could highlight rhythms, vocalists, band or choir members, melodies, etc....
